Chapter 6 First Meeting

- The security looks at me suspiciously before confirming my spot on the guests list. I finally get in. Meanwhile, I’m glancing at all the handsome men, looking for Luke... and then I see him. I step closer, slowly approaching Luke and his date. And when she turns around, I gasp. Kate: She’s the girl from the shop! I wonder what will Luke do if he finds out she’s sleeping with other men! - I see Luke standing by one of the paintings, so I pretend to trip and fall. Luke: Ah, be careful. Kate: That was close. Luke: Are you alright? Kate: Yes, thank you. Luke: You’re welcome. - Luke looks at me like wants to say something, but his date interrupts him. She tells him she needs to take this call while eyeing me suspiciously. I’m flooded with relief while she walks away. And judging by the eager expression on Luke’s face, I can tell he feels the same. Luke: I don’t think we’ve met. What’s your name? Kate: Kate. Luke: I’m Luke. A pleasure. Kate: Pleasure is all mine. Luke: Are you new to the art team. Kate: Yes. My brother was the one who supposed to be here tonight. But he had to cancel, so I’m here for him. Luke: Well, I feel lucky to have met you here. I hope this isn’t your last art auction. Kate: Oh, it depends on how much I spend tonight. - Luke laughs, his eyes twinkling. Luke: Then, please my lady, be thrifty. I can’t believe I haven’t seen you around before. Did you recently move here? Kate: No, I’m a local girl. Lived here for whole my life. Luke: Oh, so you’re familiar with the Glitz? Kate: Yes, I’ve heard it’s great. You’re the owner, right? Luke: I’m. Kate: Well, you should be proud. People talk highly about the place. Luke: I’m honored. Maybe we should have coffee there sometime. To talk about art, if you want. - Before we finish talking, his date comes back telling him that she discovered something shocking.
